Friday we had a sparkle dance party at Alan Chesbro’s in windsong village. it was terribly amazing. I met quite a few charming/excellent people and danced for about four solid hours. I literally danced as much as that little poster i made in prep for the party. CMYKGO! colour scheme and futura as the typeface. Sometimes it’s 80 year old shit that captures the essence of the contemporary. That being said, Obama using Gotham really makes an impression on people (Okay so he also killed it with Perpetua and Gill Sans are like 80 years old too). This is a perfect example of how important graphic design is. It make that difference in votes. If the president doesn’t think about his (yes, his*) self image then how can they think about the image of our country? Sorry that was kinda getting off topic. Point being friday was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.Oh yea, and I got a new computer.*it’s not that I don’t like women politicians, I just don’t like hillary one bit.

Despite not having a computer for a month and a half now, I continue to be doing quite a bit of work. Come March 1st I will have sent off my 13 portfolio sketches for Gothenburg University and for this I am very excited. Right now the two production based classes I’m taking now are Intermediate Graphic Design and Printmaking I. Print has, in a rather short while (two assignments), helped me develop brand new aesthetic which I hope to incorporate more regularly into personal online work as well as an opportunity for clients to get a different look. The first project was relief printing from carved linoleum 2×3 inch squares. This is a perfect format for business cards and also easily incorporable into letterheads, albeit tedious to make in large quantities. I think I might rebrand my mom’s jewelry “company” for practice and use that.
In Intermediate Graphic Design I find myself continually challenged to meet the requirements of each project while still having the art go in the direction that I want. Here is a recent exercise I did in the field of typography. The print of it was pretty horrible, the drop shadow turned red and I forgot to put the print settings on high quality so I got barring, which actually turned out looking really nice haha. I was going for swiss colours, which I saw continually onscreen but which didn’t come through in print. Lesson learned I suppose.
My mother bought me this shortly after coming back from Sweden. This is one of the most cohesive publications I have ever seen, visually and conceptually. C Θ L Θ R S is a magazine started in Italy by Benetton. In this issue, the year is 2057 and the mag is your guide around Vörland, a small Swedish Island turned summer destination due to climate change. The idea is that this place is an escape from the world of decay; the microcosm is fully self-sustainable and environmentally sound. The design has headers in Cooper Black, very retro looking maps, and a great 70’s feel all around, bringing our thoughts back to that time when we had hope for the environment.

I made a holiday album today, it was my first time using InDesign for a project and I think it turned out pretty well. I have given it to a lot of my friends and family members, it’s nice to be able to spend a lot of time on something like that and still mass produce it. A friend of the family was happy that I gave it to her because her kids wouldn’t allow for any other lame christmas mixes. Little does she know I was kind of liberal with the term “holiday” and have extended it to include anything that sounds holidayish. I hope Battles’ Race:In livens up her evening lolz. I was very happy to be able to also include some christmas songs by musician friends, but couldn’t get it together enough to record my own, maybe you’ll hear it later this month. MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS URRYONE.
